I do a lot of work in Hale Barns — large-format porcelain floors, bathroom installations, and open-plan extensions tend to come up regularly. Most jobs need proper levelling work before the tiling starts. That's where most of the effort goes, and it's what makes the finish look right and last properly.
Two recent Hale Barns projects show this well: the large-format epoxy grout floor — a full ground floor installation with premium epoxy grout, mechanical levelling, and tiled skirting throughout — and the new extension bathroom, where large-format porcelain was installed wall-to-ceiling with a flush tiled access hatch integrated cleanly into the tile grid.

It depends on the area, tile size, and how much floor preparation is needed. I provide a clear, itemised quote after visiting — no estimates over the phone for large projects.
I recommend epoxy grout for all floor and wet area installations. It's significantly more stain-resistant and durable than cement grout, and the finish is cleaner and longer-lasting.

Bigger tiles mean fewer joints — so the floor looks cleaner and is easier to maintain.
Large tiles show every variation in the substrate. Self-levelling compound is almost always needed — I check the floor before committing to anything.
Mechanical levelling clips hold adjacent tiles at the same height while the adhesive sets. Without them, you get lippage — and on polished porcelain, that's very visible.
Cement grout stains and degrades. Epoxy doesn't. On a floor that cost this much, it's not worth cutting corners on the grout.
